I would like to thank you all of you who supported me and ‘The Counselling Partnership’ and to remind you that the fund is still open for support.
I finished the marathon with a time of 8hours 41mins which gave me the entitlement to a Bill Rowan medal. This medal is awarded to anyone that finishes within 9 hours; Bill Rowan was the first man to win the Comrades in 1921. The winning time this year was 5 hours 29 min which is amazing. Everyone has to finish within a time of 12 hours and they stop runners at half way points if the race organisers know that you will not make this time.
This year the race was run between Petermaritzburg to which is called downhill, next year the race is run in reverse which is ‘uphill’ although I can confirm that you are never ever running on the flat and it is known that the ‘downhill’ run is more challenging on the legs.
The atmosphere was absolutely great; the race started in the morning at 5.30am with people cheering all along the 55.9 mile route to the finish.; It was an amazing experience and although painful and I did suffer the next day, it really was worth it
If I can afford the fare I will certainly hope to do it again and thank you on behalf of ‘The Counselling Partnership’ for your support.
The Counselling Partnership (NSCCP) supports individuals through times of crisis by ofering low cost counselling. The Charity has professional volunteers working in some of the most deprived areas of Surrey.
