Story
This year, after a very long wait since my initial application in 2019, I will be crossing the London Marathon Finishing Line! In the lead up to the October run I will be fundraising, training and smiling. As if that wasn't enough I'll also be taking on the Bristol Half Marathon in September!
I'm doing this all in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer and you can read my story below.
In 2012, at the age of 19 I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma - a type of blood cancer.
I was stunned! I didn't know what I was meant to do with that information. What it meant for my future or how I was going to get through it. The team that looked after me at St Helens hospital had Young Lives vs Cancer get in touch with me within days of my diagnosis. I was assigned a Young Lives vs Cancer social worker, she visited my house and got everything organised. Ensured our financial situation was taken care of and helped me find the courage to explain the situation to my younger family members. Jane, my social worker even helped my girlfriend (now wife!) Beth with various aspects of university whilst I was going through treatment.
Nothing was too much trouble for them. I can credit Jane for keeping my personality and humour intact during such a difficult time of my life.
I'm a fundraiser, volunteer, ex-service user and now employed member of the fundraising team at Young Lives vs Cancer. And I'm proud every day to be part of such an incredible organisation in every way that I am involved.
Please sponsor what you can, every penny helps these families through the toughest of times. To find out more about Young Lives vs Cancer head to their website:
