Story

UPDATE: It's over! Run To Haiti took place just a few days ago at Hampton School, with LEH pupils crossing the gate to take part as well. It was certainly worth the wait, with the sun shining all day, and many pupils having come up with a variety of imaginative costumes, ranging from group beachwear and football strips to individuals including a bear, a penguin, a Dalek and a (very large) sumo wrestler. The attitude and enthusiasm of students throughout the day was immensely impressive, as was the efficiency with which LEH staff coordinated a dauntingly large-looking proportion of their school onto and off the Hampton pitches within a brisk half hour.

Although we do not have an official tally, the turnout far exceeded the 1000 students we aimed for, and we are fairly confident of having managed to run to Haiti. Money has been rolling in at a fairly constant rate, and at the time of writing we have raised about £16,500 including Gift Aid. All funds raised will be sent to the DEC, whose efforts are ongoing in the process of rebuilding Haiti since it was hit by the devastating earthquake of January 2010. Now that the event is run, we hope many remaining donations will continue to reflect the effort made by all involved.

We are using Just Giving as both a convenient way to handle donations, and to take advantage of Gift Aid. As UK taxpayers, parents donating on behalf of their runners can select the Gift Aid option and allow us to claim even more money. Please don't forget to do so!

The revised target of £20,000 will, with Gift Aid supplements included, mean a more realistic target of £25,000, which we hope to reach within the next few weeks as final donations after the event come in.

If you wish to donate anonymously, type 'Anonymous' into the 'Donation By' box when filling in details, and there is also the option to hide the amount donated.

All contributions are extremely welcome; the support so far has been tremendous. Please continue to dig deep, and thank you for supporting our Run To Haiti, and thanks, too, to everyone who ran it!
