My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On May 31st I ran the Edinburgh marathon for a second time in memory of my niece Laura. This was my 7th marathon, only another 3 to go to reach double figures! After getting round in 4 hours 8 minutes last year I was hoping to go under 4 hours this year but the heat on the day put paid to that (please see picture of me at about 16 miles looking OK which I was not 10 mile later) and my time was 4 hours 24 minutes

The tragic death of Laura in December 2007 inspired me again to put on my running shoes to raise money for a very worthy cause last year and again this year.

Laura’s life was cut tragically short at the age of 17 by a rare form of cancer known as Ewing Sarcoma, which normally affects young people between the ages of 10 and 20.

During the final months of her short life, Laura was cared for at home by her close family, during which time she also received the best possible medical care from the staff at Derian House, Children’s Hospice in Chorley, Lancashire.

Derian House offers a lifeline for families with children that are diagnosed with a terminal illness, it helps to give them the strength to go on and is their means of survival through the darkest moments.

Derian House receives just 2% of  funding  from official sources, with the reality being that they are open 365 days a year and receive statutory funding for just 4.

To read more about the wonderful work that they do please go to  www.derianhouse.co.uk

I appreciate not only that that many of you sponsored me last year for the same worthy cause and also we are all in the midst of a massive recession. However I am hoping to again raise as much money as possible again in Laura’s memory  for this very worthy cause and would appreciate any sponsorship that you might feel able to give

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Derian House Childrens Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please really dig and consider sponsoring me now!
