Story

Memorial Cycle Ride, Ermenonville to Bury St Edmunds, 7-11 May 2014

A charity cycle ride to mark the 40th anniversary of the Ermenonville air disaster on 3 March 1974 and, in particular, to remember the 17 members of Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club who lost their lives that day.

This sponsored Memorial Cycle Ride is in memory of our family members and friends who tragically lost their lives on Turkish Airlines Flight 981, which suffered a catastrophic technical failure and crashed into the Ermenonville Forest, near Compiègne, northern France, on 3 March 1974.

I am taking up the challenge to ride from the crash site at Ermenonville to Bury Rugby Club. The distance is approximately 310 miles and the challenge will be completed in five days.

I am fundraising for two charities: St Nicholas Hospice Care and The Haberden Trust, with all monies raised being shared 50:50 between them.

Funds will go towards continuing the work of St Nicholas Hospice Care, which cares for patients facing life-shortening illnesses, and their families, in the West Suffolk and Thetford areas; and also the installation of new floodlighting for the junior pitches at Bury Rugby Club.

Please support me in this challenge.
