Story
In a moment of insanity, I signed myself up for this challenge and now I am truly committed!
The Inca Trail is a 4 day trek in Peru which culminates at the world famous lost Inca city of Machu Picchu. I will be treking for 8 hours a day through rainforest, mountains, grassland and dank raincloud, along river paths, stoney trails, and mountain passes. This is a high altitude trek (with peaks of 4000m above sea level) which makes it a big challenge on the body. Camping facilities along the way are very basic - no flushing toilets, hot water ...........or hairdryers.............oh crikey am I up to the challenge? I will certainly do my very best and am already training hard to build up those thigh muscles!
When deciding which charity to fundraise for I wanted to support an organisation that helps a wide range of people. Cancer will affect 1 in 3 of us and I'm sure we all know someone who has been affected by cancer - so Macmillan seemed the obvious choice. Being a mother of 2 young girls, I also wanted to support a charity that would help children also. Macmillan have recently joined up with Crossroads specifically to help young carers. Crossroads are a voluntary organisation who 'Care for the Carers' . Did you know the average age of a young carer is just 12?
