Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2009 I couldn't run for more than a minute without stopping. In April 2010 I will be running 26.2 miles in the Brighton Marathon.
Between now and then I will be putting myself through a rigorous and tortuous training schedule - 4 challenging runs a week, low alcohol consumption, and a healthy diet (boooo!)
Why am I doing this?
I am running as part of Team Guide Dogs, to raise as much as I can for this very well-deserving cause.
180,000 blind and partially sighted people in the UK never go out alone, because they are not supported in gaining the skills and confidence they need to do so.
Guide Dogs for the Blind has been providing guide dogs to blind and partially sighted people for over 75 years, and is entirely dependent on voluntary donations.
The charity currently supports around 4,500 guide dog partnerships in the UK. They make a lifetime commitment to provide guide dog owners with a guide dog for as long as they need them. The cost of a guide dog to its new owner is a nominal 50p, to ensure that no-one is prevented from having one by lack of funds.
Guide Dogs also funds major research projects aimed at enabling blind and partially sighted people to make the best use of any remaining vision they may have. Through their Vision Support Services the charity also supports thousands of people in getting to grips with life's practicalities, and provides one to one help with blind/partially sighted children.
Please help me support this cause, and make the blood, sweat, tears, non-alcoholic drinks and healthy food worthwhile!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you
