On Monday 25th October, I will be running the Dublin Marathon to raise money for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity in memory of our dear friend and colleague David Frost who lost his battle with cancer in July.

The aim of the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is to provide a first class palliative care service which is accessible to the people of Aylesbury and the surrounding villages.

A variety of services are offered according to need to people throughout the Vale of Aylesbury and as far afield as Buckingham, Leighton Buzzard, Tring, Amersham, Chesham, High Wycombe, Chinnor and Thame.

The specialist palliative care provided by Florence Nightingale Hospice deals with the more complex physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of cancer and non-cancer patients.

Each year the charity needs to raise £450,000 to fund the following services, here’s how your money can really make a difference:

Florrie’s Children’s Team: A visit by the paediatric nurse costs them £70

Lymphoedema Clinic: A patient attendance at the clinic costs them £67

Day Hospice: A visit to Day Hospice costs them £143

Inpatient Nursing and Community Nursing Specialists: A visit to the patient’s home by a Community Nurse Specialist costs them £68. A bed costs £4,000 and with pain-relieving mattresses at £4,000, the total cost is £8,000 and they have 12.  A syringe driver costs £880 and they have 14.

All these services are provided free of charge .
