Progress update (12/09/11): I'm pleased to report that I completed the Addidas 5k run yesterday in about 32 minutes. A great family event for runners of all abilities and I found it really humbling to see so many people out in support of so many great causes. My sights are now set on the BUPA 10k on 27/05/12. Running is not my forte so I'm not quite sure how I'm going to make the jump from 5 to 10k but I'll give it a go!
Progress update (07/07/11): On Saturday I managed to successfully navigate the one mile course of the Great London Swim in 37 minutes and 06 seconds. My target was under 45 minutes so I was pretty happy with my time and I really enjoyed the event although the great weather might have had something to do with it. Will definitely be entering again next year and may even try and break the 30 minutes barrier. Would recommend outdoor swimming (but definitely WITH a wetsuit) and can report that the Thames is surprisingly salty.
Progress update (02/06/11): Clay pigeon shooting on 30 May was a blast (no pun intended) but I unfortunately had to pass on my trophy to another - well done mum! Another sport that I'm really glad a tried and look forward to doing again.
Progress update (06/04/11): Future activities include clay pigeon shooting on 30/05/11, and the Adidas 5km run on 11/09/11. I am also looking to enter the Great London Swim on 02/07/11 which takes place in the Thames! So once that's all done its "en garde" for fencing.
Progress Update (31/03/11): I can report that I completed a learn to ride in a day course on Wednesday 30 March which I loved. Wallace, my horse for the day, was a gentle giant and I thoroughly enjoyed trotting around Wimbledon Common - although I have been more than a little stiff since. I will definitely be doing some more horse riding and perhaps some kind of trek soon.

As the dedicated athlete you all know me to be (???) I will be attempting to complete the five elements of the modern pentatholon between now and the Olympics as part of the Gold Challenge (http://www.goldchallenge.org/index.php). These are swimming, running, fencing, shooting and equestrian.
The five events were designed to replicate the exploits of a cavalry soldier brought down in enemy territory. Having been separated from his (or her in this case) horse, he fights off opponents with his sword and his pistol before swimming across a river and running back to his fellow troops. I'm sure you'll agree that this sounds like me all over (not!).
All the money I raise with go to Victim Support (http://www.victimsupport.org.uk/), the independent charity for victims and witnesses of crime in England and Wales.
Every year, it contacts over 1.5 million people after a crime to offer help. Their help is free and independent of the police or courts. But the chairty relies on donations and grants to deliver their support. So please dig deep and help me raise money to support victims and witnesses. Here it goes!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
