CLIC CYCLE CHALLENGE
October 2008
Every 24 hours, 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. These are the diseases that kill more children under one than any other and a diagnosis can have a devastating affect on children and their families. CLIC Sargent provides lots of resources and support, including nurses, play specialists and social workers, equipment, financial help and holiday homes, as well as ‘Homes from Home’ attached to paediatric cancer centres around the country. They have set up the Child Cancer Foundation to fund research into childhood cancers.
You may have heard that I succumbed to the temptation of spending 7 days sitting on an unforgiving saddle, labouring up exhausting hills and bumping across rough terrain! In 2000, I cycled 300km from Jerusalem to Eilat with a group of friends, and we raised over £20,000 for CLIC. In the intervening years, I have helped with local fundraising, including several local runs, but now I have done it again and completed a 454km cycle ride following the route of part of the Great Wall of China, north of Beijing. It was a huge challenge - big hills every day, and most days a lot longer that we had been promised! But it was certainly worth it - CLIC Sargent is the UK's leading children's cancer charity and makes a real difference to the lives of children with cancer and their families.
I am funding all my own costs and so every penny I raise is going to support the work of CLIC Sargent. I should be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring me for this most worthy of causes.
CLIC Sargent’s charity number is 1107328 and much more information is available at www.clicsargent.org.uk.
