It seemed like a good idea at the time .....to enter the London Marathon

As you know I am not blessed with a natural runner's body . In August 08 having got the nod from the Guide Dogs, I bought a pair of running shoes, watched Run Fat Boy Run and devised a training plan . In my first run with Ollie , I lasted 10 minutes and pulled a calf muscle.

Well I have moved on from there,  the training progresses (not quite in line with my idealistic plan) and the mileage increases, as my pain threshold and motivation reduce in proportion. The only real benefit I have achieved from all this training is the discovery of a new set of muscles and all of them hurt. I have seen more ice packs this month than Scott of the Arctic.

So please dig deep safe in the knowledge that

1) You are helping to raise an amount sufficent to train a guide dog puppy to make a real difference in someone's life.

2) You are making sure that I can't  wimp out of what is rapidly becoming a massive challenge.

3) You will be able to laugh your socks off as the guy dressed as a jar of Marmite runs past me.

4) Alison has increased my life insurance.

So please support this fantastic charity and help me get to the finish line.

Thanks

Sergio

PS. If any one can source a lorry load of pain killing gel please let me know.

PPS. I will change the picture to a cute labrador puppy if I get past £5000. (see below)

PPPS. The guide dog is not for Defoe, Bent or any future Spurs striker, it was funny the first time, but now....

PPPPS. No I will not run the Marathon in any form of Arsenal kit no matter how much I am offered... unless ........

PPPPPS . To the contrary of the rumours circulating Credit Suisse,  I will not have my kit sponsored by SAGA, Stannah StairLifts, Zimmer, Slimfast or any hair transplant clinic .

PPPPPPS. A piece of advice to anyone considering a marathon, avoid a three day trip to Rome to watch Ireland play Italy at Rugby.  Copious amounts of beer is not a good training aid, and yes it is possible to sweat  pure Guinness!!

PPPPPPPS. Thanks to everyone for getting me past £5000, as promised I have changed my photo. This will be changed back to the photo of me dying in my first 10k (not a pretty sight) if I dont reach £5750 by the start of April.  So please dig deep and save the Puppy from oblivion !!

PPPPPPPPS. Having just completed the Milton Keynes Half Marathon,  i have learnt two vital things. 1) A marathon is extremely long 2) It is easy to underestimate the energy sapping potential of being over taken by Scooby Doo!!

PPPPPPPPPS. No matter what your personal trainer says, using a broom handle to massage an injured buttock does not look normal, particularly bearing in mind that one wrong move could lead to a very embarrassing conversation in casualty.

PPPPPPPPPPS. So the last long run has been completed (30K). Two weeks to go and I am really looking forward to the big day. Actually I am bricking it!!!!!

PPPPPPPPPPPS. Only a few days to go ..... to clarify 1) My number is 47045,  2) I will not be dressing up as a Labrador 3) I will be dressing up as a large bald overweight struggling guy. 4) If you are coming up to spectate and see me, please no onions on my burger. and 5) Finally for those of you who have been telling me how much I will enjoy the day and what a great experience the marathon is....... it better be or I willl be visiting you with a broom handle (see above) !!!!!

A big thank you to everyone who has supported me the amount raised is staggering and will make a real difference. Please feel free to text me encouraging/rude messages during the day!!!

Well its done, what a fantastic experience, I could have done with it being a little bit cooler. Once again thanks to everyone for their support during the build up and on the day it was awesome. I am off to put my feet up..

PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPS. To paraphrase the immortal words of Steve Redgrave - If you see me putting on a pair of running shoes ..shoot me!! (
