We identify and recognise unpaid carers to support them in their caring roles

Story

We are students from the University of Bath who are trying to raise awareness and funds for Swindon Carers Centre. It is a charitable organisation which provides help and support to the 21,000 carers in Swindon.

We are hosting a mini-fair event in the Swindon Brunel Centre on 13th and 19th July in order to provide a fun day to the potential carers and raise awareness about the charity. As some carers may not aware that they are carers, we would inform them that they can actually access support from Swindon Carers Centre. Your contribution to Swindon Carers Centre means a lot as it will provide carers with help and support.

We are very grateful for all donations to Swindon Carers Centre – they really do make a difference!

  • £5 will provide a pamper session for adult carers to help relieve stress associated with caring and give them some alone time
  • £10 will allow a young carer to attend an art workshop to enjoy time with their friends and a break from their caring role
  • £15 will give a adult carer a short break from their demanding caring roles. This could include a day trip away with other carers
  • £20 could pay for a series of counselling sessions for a carer who needs additional support

The mission of Swindon Carers Centre (SCC) is to improve the well-being of people with caring responsibilities in and around Swindon, creating a community where carers are recognised, valued and supported. It is part of the Carers Trust Network, and was established to provide help and support to the 21,000 carers in Swindon. SCC has a team of professionals and trained volunteers, who provide a wide range of support and services to carers of all ages: • Assessing carers’ needs on an individual basis and draw up support plans to reduce the impact of caring on their lives. This includes young carers aged between 5 and 18 • Providing breaks – a few hours of respite for carers and families • Running a range of self-help groups for carers, giving them the opportunity to meet with other carers and share information and advice • Working in partnership with schools to support young carers to fulfill their potential • Offering training courses to groups of carers based on their needs • Delivering an Emergency Card scheme to offer carers peace of mind • Running a Welfare and Benefits Advice service to support carers (and the people they care for) who are facing financial difficulties and may be eligible for welfare benefits but are not claiming them. Benefits Advisors assess carers’ eligibility for benefits based on their individual circumstances and needs.
