Simon's John O'Groats to Lands End Chellenge · 12 September 2009

MS-UK is here to support anyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), which affects over 150,000 people in the UK. We empower people with MS to live healthier and happier lives by improving the understanding of the condition and providing support where it is needed most.

Story

Hi, I'm Simon Barnes and I am preparing to run the 871 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End in just 16 days to raise money for, and awareness of, the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) charity.

I hope to raise at least £25,000 as well as invaluable awareness of the disease and the work of MSRC.

Have a look at the promotional video please http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZothCiu8TWM

I acknowledge, that this is the greatest test I am ever likely to undertake.   I know you've got to do something pretty big to raise some serious money. Whilst money is always good, creating greater awareness is even more important. That’s what I hope my run will do.

I am a good friend of Stroud resident Alastair Hignell, the former England rugby international and BBC rugby commentator and also the patron of MSRC.  I will be running in the colours of Higgy’s Heroes, people committed to raising money and awareness of the charity through all sorts of events. I don’t believe there is enough awareness of the illness.

Whilst I am sure I will feel pretty tired by the end of the run, I at least know my pain will only be temporary.  I will set off from John O’Groats on September 12, hopefully reaching Land’s End on September 27 by running the equivalent of 2 marathons a day.
