Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and if you are able to sponsor my swim and make a donation to Dan's Fund for Burns then this will be very much appreciated.
Dan was my best childhood friend. The charity Dan's Funds for Burns was set up in his memory after he was tragically killed in the Bali Bomb blast of 2002.
As children Dan and I would holiday in West Scotland and it is to West Scotland that I now return for this ultimate swimming challenge - the whirlpool of Corryvreckan. Located in the Inner Hebrides between the islands of Jura (where Orwell lived and wrote 1984 and where he incidentally almost died in the whirlpool) and Scaba, the Gulf of Corryvreckan is considered so dangerous that the British Royal Navy have officially classed it "unnavigable." I can't quite answer the question as to why I am risking all. I am not a strong swimmer and am certainly not a fan of cold water. Unfortunately all the training I have done (from Hyde Park's Serpentine to the white Cliffs of Dover) have only gone to emphasise this however it's far too late to back out now so on the 17th September I'll be going for it with friends beside me..
