We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Me, Mummy and our pug Boris are taking part in this Race for Life event because we lost my daddy in a motorbike accident when I was a baby, and I want to help save other mummies and daddies from dying.

Mummy says 5k is not very much to walk for us… but it's a long way for Boris, so he's our mascot. His training started this week with quite a lot of long snoozes, and lots of roast chicken. Mummy says she will probably have to carry him most of the way if it's hot, so we hope you will sponsor us because it's not going to be THAT easy.

Love Jesse and Boris xxx

Mummy says:

Not long after my husband David died in 2010, I was full of amazing plans to raise lots of money for Hampshire Air Ambulance (who tried and tried in vain to put D back together again on the Candover lanes), but I somehow never found the time between trying to put myself back together again.

But Cancer Research is a charity very close to my heart – my lovely father Jack had non-Hodgkinsons lymphoma and then 10 years of remission before he eventually died, aged only 56. My ex partner of 12 years, John Coughlan, before David, died from lung cancer two years ago.

Numerous close friends have survived cancer – including my dear friend Carol Herring. But while Carol lived, her sister Lulu died only recently, after an incredible fight which made me realise that the very thing that makes us all human is… hope. None of us could go on without hope, and Lulu had buckets of the stuff – for her, for her sister, and for us all, which is why she raised so much money for the cause, despite her bleak prognosis.

Anyway, enough of the sad stuff. Even if your heart is made of stone, you should at least be putting a down payment on your cancer treatment. Let's face it, the way the stats are going, this is an investment in your future healthcare.

You may think 5k is nothing, but Jesse will probably moan all the way, and Boris will probably need carrying after the first 1k if it's a hot day. So sponsor us now, help us show that nothing says “no to cancer” like a pug in pink…
