At the end of May 2009 I plan to cycle solo from John O'Groats to Lands End in 14 days. Why? Nothing to do with being 40 I'm sure :-). Actually it's something I've thought about doing since a friend did it 20 years ago, and now seemed as good a time as ever! The train is booked, I know where I'm starting and finishing so planning is almost complete, and a I've got a new bike so it should be easy! Just need to average 120km a day for 14 days.....
Why JoG->LE? Well I looked at a map and obviously it's down hill all the way! Actually ask yourself this question, where would I like to end up after 2 weeks of sitting on a razor blade? The sunny beaches of Cornwall, family waiting hopefully with open arms (or at least ready to hand the kids over), and only a few hours from home, or the remotest part of Scotland, on my own with a 24 hour bike and train journey home - no brainer!
Although one of the reasons for doing this trip is personnel, it seems an ideal opportunity to raise some money for Charity. I've chosen three charities to support and would like to raise £600 for each. Two are national, one is local to Cheltenham. Feel free to chose your preferred charity, or donate to a charity of your choice and let me know by email.
