Story

Update - The race starts on Sunday 25th March and you will be able to monitor my progress by logging on to www.darbaroud.com. From this web site you can also send me messages which will be very welcome. Under the special heading "ecrire aux concurrents" (write to competitors) fill in the message form which must contain my first name, surname and race number (735) otherwise I won't get the message. Thank you so much for the tremedous support. See you when I get back on 2nd April.

On the 22nd March I leaving the UK to take part in the Marathon Des Sables - The toughest foot race on earth. The equivalent of 6 marathons in 6 days, 151 miles (243km), 120 degree heat, running on sand, carrying my own equipment and food. No showers or toilets! More info www.saharamarathon.co.uk

I have decided to push myself to the limit to raise money to build a school in Sierra Leone, Africa. I hope my friends will help me raise the £20,000 required. Obviously all donations however large or small will be gratefully recieved - but if 20 generous businesses sponsored me £1,000 each, my target would be reached.

I have choosen this charity as I believe it will have the greatest positive effect on so many young lives. Better eduation will provide children with a better quality of life and also help put a stop to war and poverty.

I already give £10,000 a month to Action Aid, I mention this not to impress you, but to impress upon you how important this charity is to me. I hope you will follow my lead and support this truly worthwhile cause.  Once the School is built I will make a plaque with the names of all sponsors of £500 or more. There will also be a book which lists ALL the sponsors and I hope one day that students from that school will write to all the sponsors thanking them for their generosity and explain how the school has helped give them a better life.

All the costs for the trip are covered by me so every penny raised will go to the charity.

On those dark and painful days ahead it will only be the thought of the money raised and the good it can do that will keep me going.

Thank you very much for your support, it really is aprreciated.

Regards Sean
