Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Inner City Project Annual Bike Ride JustGiving page.
Its all over now, apart from the sore bits, for another year. The weather was against us all day Saturday, literally! We had an easterly wind that made even the downhill bits feel like uphills! None-the-less we all finished at 5pm on Sunday at Seaton Delaval Hall.
If you're interested in taking part next year please get in touch with Gerard or Kath.
However, if you've got something already planned and can't take part, please consider making a donation to support our efforts!
All the funds raised from the bike ride will go to support the ICP and help get young and older people out and enjoying the countryside. Your donations will be helping our groups to "Get Something Out of Getting Out"
About the ride:
Day 1; Start 9.00am (7am pick up in Newcastle) at Bowness-on-Solway, a breezy start through the country lanes towards Carlisle and an early break (1st stop). Then out east getting steadily steeper and into Brampton for lunch (2nd stop) wind still in our face. Next - BANKS!!! big bad hills from the off, some downhill, which seemed like uphills with the easterly wind in our face, passing Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald, Gilsland and on to Greenhead Bank!! Plenty of pushing up this one!! Down to Haltwistle, Melkridge and Bardon Mill, before climbing steadily to Once Brewed YHA for a hot shower, Chilli and rice followed by strudle and custard - large portions, a rehydrating beer and a good night's sleep!
Day 2; A few ups and downs to wake us up, passing Vindolanda, Housesteads and some of the best views Hadrian's Wall country has to offer. Down through Warden and on to Hexham (1st stop). Out of Hexham and on down through the Tyne Valley on roads you never knew existed, past Wylam stoping at George Stevenson's Birth Place for a welcome cup of tea and on to Newburn for lunch (2nd stop). Out of Newburn along the river through Scotswood, Benwell, Elswick and on past the Quayside, no time to shop at the market though! Carrying on through North Tyneside, past Segedunum (Wallsend) and on to Kath's house for more tea and cake! before the final push, cycle, to Seaton Delaval Hall, quick photo and down to the sea at Seaton Sluice.
Look out for next year's cycle ride!
