Story
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
We are cycling the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne over the August Bank Holiday to raise money for The One Foundation / Play Pumps.
The play pumps are a sustainable solution aimed at pumping fresh water from deep underground into storage tanks. Installed near schools, the PlayPump system is powered by children playing on the roundabout.
We are hoping to raise £6,000 which would mean we could fund an entire system for a village.
This is a great cause that we are all very passionate about, and in case you need some further reasons for digging deep into your pockets, some facts below...
- More than one billion people worldwide do not have access to clean water.
- Water-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, taking the lives of 6,000 people a day, and are responsible for 80 percent of all sickness in the world.
- 40 billion hours are lost annually to hauling water, a chore primarily undertaken by women and girls.
- the south downs way is a very very long way with killer hills...
(100 miles, 10,000 feet of hills and a terrain of mud and flint to be precise - fun!)
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The One Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
