Hi!
Well, I did it! I ran my first Flora London Marathon in 4 hrs 29 mins!! Thanks to all of you family and friends, and the rest of my family (Husband, Mum & Dad, Sisters & brother) and friends around me who have been forced to listen to my ‘marathon talk’ for the past 5 months!! It was a fantastic day! The weather was glorious and I was very lucky to be feeling on top form.
I was running at a very good pace for the first 18 miles, although at 10 miles in I had to stop to queue to go to the loo, which unfortunately took 12 minutes off my time. Then, at 18 miles, the realisation of what I was doing suddenly hit me, and at 19 miles I hit the infamous wall! But then I so badly wanted to reach 21.2 miles before allowing myself to feel desparate that, with the help of a lot of lucozade, I overcame the wall very quickly and got a surge of energy that carried me past the 21 mile then to the 22 mile marker without my noticing it!
The rest, from 24 miles on, was a series of countdowns to the finish line highlighted by my husband shouting out my name and cheering me on as he had done from practically every major point on the route (I’m sure he completed a half marathon himself that day!) and by my sister Mounia being there, and my friends Sarah Godfrey and Gil cheering me on very creatively at 24 miles when I was flagging!
