Reading Half Marathon 2007 · 25 March 2007 ·

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

A couple of years ago I asked Sue Ballard, founder of Pancreatic Cancer UK,  how I could get a place in the London Marathon.

Last year she reminded me of this and recruited me for the PCUK Reading Half Marathon team so that I could get experience of a race more than 10K. Unfortunately I got injured so had to pull out.

This year I finally have a place in the London Marathon to help raise funds for an ambulatory cancer centre at University College London Hospital where I work (see www.justgiving.com/stevepereira). The centre will allow patients  to access treatments, diagnostics, counselling, information, complementary therapies and support on a totally integrated basis.

Sue offered me a place in Reading Half Marathon again this year as a practice race so let's hope I make it this time. In exchange I want to raise some funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK to help their mission  to make a difference for those suffering from this disease through research, awareness, support and information.
