Story
Hi All,
I completed the 5Km charity run (Superhero run) on sunday morning. I had a finish time of 24:04.3mins.
As some of you know I don’t run I row, but I have signed up to a 5km run. This came about by a colleague being contacted by someone at Crohn’s and Colitis UK (the newly named NACC - National Association for Colitis and Crohn's) offering places on this run. My sister was diagnosed with Crohn’s two years ago, thus I felt it a worthwhile cause to raise awareness and funds for.
What is Crohn's?
Colitis and Crohn's illnesses are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) for which there is no cure and in some cases can be life threatening. Medication may cause side effects and surgery may be needed, often more than once.
Not many people readily admit that they have Colitis or Crohn's Disease so it may surprise you that around 180,000 people in the UK suffer from one of these conditions, my sister and Sir Steve Redgrave included. Add to this the number of family and friends whose lives may be affected by their loved ones developing these illnesses and the total number of people affected is considerable.
