UPDATE 23/07/09 - Well I'm back from France having beaten the elimination truck and successfully completed the 2009 Montelimar - Ventoux  Etape du Tour; and a brutal and beautiful experience it was too...will post a full report soon....

NB - I don't have email addresses for Keith & Eileen, Clare & George and Jan - so a big thanks for your generosity, it's really appreciated.
............................................................................................................................................................................................................

On 5th November 08 my best mate Chris was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour; it took his life a mere 4 weeks later. He leaves behind a wonderful wife and family and hundreds of friends - we all love and miss him dearly.

He had 29 fun packed years in which he touched many people with his warmth, humour, generosity and charitable deeds. He had a passion for life and was a true one off!

The courage with which Chris faced his illness was truly inspiring; who else but Chris would insist we go and see the mighty Rancid in concert the day after being diagnosed with a terminal illness?!! I'm hoping a little of that courage has rubbed off on me and I thought a fitting tribute would be to try and raise some money to help support the great work that Hammer Out do in their care and support for brain tumour patients and their families.

I thought I would combine my 2 great passions, lycra and sado-masochism, and  attempt to cycle the Etape du Tour; an amateur's stage of the Tour de France. - a gruelling 172km ride and combined 3100m ascent,  taking in 5 major climbs, culminating in Mount Ventoux - The Giant of Provence at 1912m.  This takes place on Monday, July 20th 2009.

I promise to do my best to get my arse into shape in order that I don't let you and Hammer Out down!

Please sponsor me and help me raise some cash for this charity.  ALL of the money you donate will go directly to Hammer Out and not towards expenses.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Hammer Out gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
