Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I’m riding the 180 miles across the country from Southport to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in August - in one (long!) day for Cancer Research UK. I'm sure I don't need to outline to you the key work that this organisation does and the positive impact it's having on treatments and survival rates.
Whilst most of you know that I do a ‘bit of cycling’, this will be around three times the length of my longest race this year, five times my usual training ride, longer than any stage in this year's Tour de France and take in some of the most severe climbs and passes of Lancashire, Cumbria and Northumbria. I'm expecting it to take around 12 hours. Claire and Emily are planning to meet me at various points along the route to feed, encourage and push me if necessary........
STOP PRESS 1! - My father's a lifelong cyclist who was diagnosed with Cancer in 2007. He's responding well to treatment and at 72 is now planning to join me for the ride. Whilst this will add a little time to the ride, it promises to be all the more memorable.
STOP PRESS 2! - We did it! It was a long, hard day but the sun shone, there was no wind, no punctures and Claire, Emily and mum managed to meet us at half-way with some food and drinks. Brother in law, Ian, also managed to meet us to do the last 45 miles - but possibly wished he hadn't........
Barclays will match each £ that you sponsor me - upto £750 - and I’m covering all related expenses.
Thanks for any donations you’re able to make to Cancer Research UK.Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure.
