Story

Hi!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On September 25th 2009 I will attempt to climb the worlds highest freestanding mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. This has been a goal of mine for some time now and I will also be doing it to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.

21st September 2009 is World Alzheimer's Day. My Nan, Elizabeth Connoley, suffers from Alzheimer's along with 700,000 others in the UK and so I would like to help them out by raising this money.

One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones. Your donations will be put towards support and care for these people, as well as research into the disease and how it can be cured.

I am always looking for new challenges to push myself mentally and physically and this will be the hardest challenge of my life! Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the highest peak in Africa and stands at 5,891.8 metres (19,330 ft) high. I am funding the trip myself through a company called Exodus and I will be using the Rongai route, taking 6 days to reach the summit.

I will keep everyone updated on my progress through here and Facebook. If everyone I invite donated just £10 we would be able to raise over £3,000 so please try and give whatever you can, it will really help.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

Thank you,

Steven Parkes.
