We did it. It was a fun and tiring trip, but after lots of traffic jams and roadworks we completed the ride in 23 hours 50 minutes... taking slightly longer than the 20 hours we estimated, but these things happen...

I (along with one or two others) will be riding 1000 miles in under 24 hours, from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

This challenge is known as the Iron Butt End to End - Gold (E2EG) ride.

It is a difficult undertaking, since the idea is to not only complete the ride within the allotted time, but to do it safely by adhering to the posted speed limits, obeying all traffic laws, and staying fresh by taking rest and fueling stops at hourly intervals. This is a test of the riders’ stamina and ability to stay alert and focused, NOT a speed contest!

Aside from the fun and rewarding aspect of completing a ride like this, we are also doing it to raise money for SERV, a deserving charitable organization which performs a valuable but little publicised service.

SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers) are a registered charitable organization of volunteer riders who deliver blood supplies and other critically required items to the local hospitals and emergency centers outside of work hours to help save lives.
The riders are all volunteers; they are not compensated for their time or out-of-pocket expenses for performing this valuable function.

However, they need our help now!! In these times of tight finances, organizations that rely on donations are feeling the economic downturn. Please help us to help this group, which might make a difference in saving your life or the lives of your loved ones.
