HELLO and welcome to the STROUD GREEN ALL STARS.
****THIS PAGE IS STILL OPEN FOR DONATIONS! ***
We are a group of Stroud Green residents who have added a local neighbourhood pledge to our participation in the Crouch End 10k and children's Fun Run, held each spring. This year we ran to raise money for WaterAid, a well known charity which is bringing clean water to some of the poorest countries in the world.
Most of us finished the run on May 20th, 2007. THIS PAGE IS STILL OPEN FOR DONATIONS UNTIL JULY 20th - please help lift our total. Last year we raised (including gift aid) £6,179.53 for bone marrow and stem cell research. (See: www.justgiving.com/mikesnewmarrow). What will it be this year?
THIS YEAR WE WERE:
Hugh Scorgie, Cathrin Cordes, Carlos Falco Korn, Denzil Gollings, Doug Teesdale, Doug Yexley, Mike Durham, Bobbie Jacobson, Harvey Griffiths, Trish Drasnin, John Morris, Mark Fuller, Vince Sudbury, Belinda Carmichael, Anita Charlesworths and Peter Greenaway - all N4 residents, Nic Hunt, eacher at St Aidans Primary School, Martin Whitfield, who lives in Worthing, and Kevin Durham famous nephew from Scotland....
...and 11 of the runner's CHILDREN who attend St Aidans and Stroud Green Primary Schools and Highgate Wood School, who ran the one mile event (well done, kids!)
EVENT REPORT
This really was a case of the good, the poorly and the unlucky.
Incredibly, the Stroud Green All Stars won the trophy for the best time by an unaffiliated team - this was mainly due to the incredible pace achieved by Doug Teesdale (37 minutes) and two or three other very fast runners. They all went home unawares but Carlos accepted trophies and prizes on behalf of the team from Lynne Featherstone, the MP herself.
Two team members had to retire just before the race on doctor's orders (whoever heard of spraining your back in yoga?) and one All Star dropped out at the 9th kilometer with a hamstring injury.
Finally, Dr Bobbie Jacobson was delayed for ten minutes at the 7th kilometer when she did her 'let me through, I'm a doctor' routine when another runner passed out in front of her - at least, that's her story. It turned out nor to be too serious. She was still far from last when she arrived home.
Full results are on the web.
We were kindly supported by THE FALTERING FULLBACK - a great WATERING HOLE, paying for our team shirts, with further subsidy from Palace Promotions of Crouch End.
