I will be cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats at the end of May, planning to complete the distance over 10 days so targeting 100 miles a day. I am undertaking this challenge (madness!) in aid of two wonderful charities, Oxfam and HOPE. This site will donate your money to Oxfam, and I will then match it with an equivalent donation* to HOPE.
Oxfam has recently established a team to support development in a new way, by lending money to local commercial ventures (primarily farming co-operatives) in some of the most deprived parts of the world. This will allow the local community to produce competitive goods, and enable them to become self-sufficient.
HOPE supports orphaned children in Cambodia: when they are young it gives then access to both play and education (an upsettingly rare treat for them), and as they approach teenage years it teaches them to look after themselves, integrate into the community and find work. This in turn gives role models in the orphanage and has a self-sustaining impact as they are able to support themselves and help the other children to avoid a life of poverty. www.hopeforcambodia.org.uk
I will be supported on the trip by Anna on the logistical side, as well as Oli (5) and Thomas (1) for moral support. If you felt able to sponsor me I would be very grateful indeed - many many thanks if you can.

PS By the way, for those who want to follow my progress and pain, please log onto http://stuartmcminnies.blogspot.com for my blog during the trip.
