Welcome to the fundraising page for Sue & Helen O'Gorman to help us raise our joint target of £5,000 by November 2007 and get us 2300 meters above sea level (7546 ft). If you would like to read more about our training and the trek itself, please read on. If you would like to get on and give us your money, click on the SPONSOR ME NOW button and please do be generous!

UPDATE

WE DID IT!!!! 26 miles in four days at over 4,000m altitude (sorry, figures were wrong above, wouldn't you know??!). It was hard. It was not a holiday. It was painful and dangerous in places and cold, hot, wet, dry, sunburnt, frostbite, lung infection, twisted ankle, Inca Flat, campsite crazy wonderful. We had an amazing time and can't believe we have less than £400 to raise by February 2008. You can read all about it at Helen's blog beholdenlondon.blogspot.com or you can cut to the chase and cough up your cash.
Thanks for everything and holy heck. Who knew we'd be victorious?!
UPDATE

What a busy few months! The fete was a blinding success, despite the valiant attempts of the weather to drown us. We made a corking £780 which, combined with fundraising matching from an anonymous benefactor, has brought our total soaring up the thermometer and well on the way to our target.

Thanks so much to all the many and varied helpers, bakers, stallholders and donators who made the day possible.
For now, it's back to the training and hill climbing.

UPDATE

On Saturday 23rd June at the Exmouth Arms, Bath Road, Cheltenham, Mum and I are putting on our very own fete just like you never had when you were a child. Think Famous Five meets Blue Peter meets Last of the Summer Wine. Amazing. If you can come along and have fun with us, great. If you have any junk you want to clear out and think we could sell / tombola / raffle it, even better. If you'd like to step behind a stall and take money, hand out coconuts or paint faces, well, I might just kiss you.

We will be selling: homemade cakes, handreared plants, crafts and designer-made products, books, bric a brac, face painting, tombola and more. And every penny will be coming right here!

Barclays Bank have agreed to match what money we make on the day so please be generous because every one of your pound coins is actually two.

Will be sending out reminders, requests for junk clear-outs and more soon but in the meantime, put it in your diaries, smile broadly and think of Lashings of Ginger Beer.

In November 2007, we will be climibing Machu Piccu, the 'capital' city of the Inca empire in Peru. The trek itself will last for four days, without any washing or toilet facilities and making camp every night at increasing levels of altitude, though the acclimatisation and trip toi and from base camp will bring the trip to a total of 10 days. The training regime is pretty fierce, with the final weekend demanding two 8 hour walks on the Saturday and Sunday to prepare for the duration and exertion of continuous walking.

My name (left) is Helen O'Gorman and I am a 25 year old student in London who by then will have completed the Masters degree that I am currently studying for and will be taking up my position at the Design Museum in July.

My name (right) is Sue O'Gorman, a mother of four in Cheltenham who will be about to embark on my retirement with an empty nest, a black labrador and a room full of unfinished sewing projets in my new home in Ireland.

We are doing the trek for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and have to raise £5,000 between us by next September.  Helen has used her crocheting skills to make scarves and hats for the Christmas market and is now running up gym bags, jams and chutneys like a woman possessed. Sue, meanwhile, is embroidering dog blankets, quilting stockings and stitching aprons, handbags and soft toys to be sold through the year. If you would like to see our products to buy (all profits will come back to this site) email us to request a viewing!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now and get us to the target £5,000 in time for next year.

Many thanks for your support.
