Story

Your donation will help women and girls living difficult lives around
the world to experience the joy of the outdoors that so many of us take
for granted.

Free to Run uses running, physical fitness and outdoor adventure to empower women and girls affected by conflict. They work in countries including Afghanistan and Iran, where women can risk attack or censure just for running down the street of their home town.

Their achievements include more than 100 women & girls taking part in a marathon/10K in Bamyan, Afghanistan; a running group for refugees living in Hong Kong; supporting women taking part in the first mixed-gender race in Iran in 38 years.

I am part of an awesome team of runners taking part in Glentress trail races on 25 February 2017, to raise money for Free to Run. I'll be doing the half marathon, a challenging course which includes 2,460ft of ascent over its 13.1 miles.

We're working closely with Free to Run, and are also looking into the possibility of following up on our fundraising by setting up our own running group for refugees/asylum seekers/new arrivals in Edinburgh. That's a work in progress. But first, the running...

About the charity

Free to Run drives change in community gender norms in conflict areas, by supporting adolescent girls & young women to advance their leadership and wellness through running.
