We are a world-leading charity at the forefront of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). We are an independent charity. It costs over £15.2M a year to sustain our world-leading, cutting edge, innovative service and amazingly 86% comes from the incredible generosity of our supporters.

Story

Firstly a thank you for coming this far to visit our Swimtofrance page.

When Hannah was asked about swimming the channel at the start of this term she saw it as a wonderful opportunity to repay her debt to the Sussex Air Ambulance who saved her cousin's life in August, after a potentially fatal injury as a result of a car crash.

After She joined the like minded group of swimmers dedicated enough to take up this enormous challenge we began our training in September 2008. We have now done over 1000 hours of swimming between us and are still hard at it, doing three hours per week in the pool plus weights sessions in the gym and other fitness work. As you can see we are putting alot of effort into this and we ask that you can join us and put something in too!

We are also giving money to the Matthew Elvidge Trust, aimed at helping young men with depression and getting them back on their feet, because of the sad death of Nick Elvidge's cousin and to Headway in memory of Henry Surtees. Sadly the Matthew Elvidge Trust is still in the process of becoming a registered charity so if you wish to donate to them please contact Nick Elvidge at 06nelvidge@worth.org.uk. To donate Headway please click here.

Photos, training updates and the like will be posted here as we go so keep an eye on the website to see how we're doing! Also please do leave your comments and encouragement below as it really makes the difference at 6am on a cold morning!

A huge thank you must go out to those who have helped us on our way with this challenge. Firstly Worth School for allowing us to train and also for the support of the Williams family who have driven buses, sorted admin and worked tirelessly to help us achieve our goals. I must also thank the parents of the swimmers who have funded the boat in order to allow their children to do something great. Finally I must say a big thank you to Nuffield Health gym and K2 Crawley leisure for allowing us to train free of charge.

On behalf of the three charities and all the swimming team thank you for your donations
