Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
If you have seem me over the last few years you have probably heard me talk about running a marathon "one day." Most likely, you also heard me mention that I would "soon" apply to become a puppy walker for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Well, I am finally a bit closer on both fronts. I still live in a rented flat, so raising a puppy is unfortunately out of the question for now. However, I found a way of combining both goals in a meaningful way- by running a marathon this spring (Edinburgh, May 31st) and doing it as a fund raiser for the Guide Dogs.
I have been fascinated with guide dogs for a long time. One of my coworkers in my previous job (T.V. Raman, http://emacspeak.sourceforge.net/raman/) used a guide dog to get around the office and it was always fun to see the two on their way to the next meeting. When I moved to Southampton, I was thrilled to find out that the UK Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has a training center not far from my house. On my daily jog in the park I now often see the dogs with their trainers or owners enjoying their lunch break. It is truly amazing to observe these dogs and the responsibilities they take on. Even during play time, when the harness comes off and they are allowed to romp around, they always seem to keep an eye on their charge. Once they are back in work mode it's hard to imagine any human performing their job with more concentration. And on top they still look seriously cute!
So, thanks again for stopping by. Please consider sponsoring me now!
Cheers,
Sylvie
P.S.: According to my accountant, tax payers in other EU countries can claim tax relief for charitable donations made to an organization that is recognized in the UK. Not sure if the same applies for US tax payers....
P.P.S.: Feel free to contact me directly if you don't want to donate though justgiving...
