Story
I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in April 2018.
I had my first colonoscopy, 5 months after my 1st symptom, I was 44, healthy & active. That colonoscopy saved my life!
Nova Scotia has the highest rate of colorectal cancer in Canada, 800 new cases diagnosed each year. With more screening, pre- cancerous polyps can be removed, helping decrease incidents of disease!
I am participating in Get Up There because I can!
After years of healing & help, I am strong again & ready to take on physical challenges I thought would never be possible.
My cover photo is my 1st solo backcountry camping trip last summer.
Rectal cancer treatment saved my life AND gave me some new limitations. Exercise & time in nature were a big part of my path to recovery, I will continue to push my limits, respect my body, get outside & Get Up There every day.
This cancer is SO treatable if caught earlier enough & SO deadly if not!
I got lucky, I had a family doctor who knew I needed screening & outstanding care. I am grateful for my life every single day!
Please join me & help get colorectal cancer numbers down, donate so the Dartmouth General can screen more people & save more lives!
