Story
We are delighted to have 40 women cycling from London to Brighton on 10th September 2023 in aid of breast cancer research and we would love it if you would consider supporting us.
Behind this amazing event, is a story of friendship, optimism, and a determination to turn a heart-breaking cancer diagnosis into a legacy of life-changing cancer prevention and treatment.
A year ago, Katrina was diagnosed with breast cancer, aged just 41 – a diagnosis 1 in 7 women will face in their lifetime.
Katrina says: “My treatment and care at University Hospital Southampton was second to none, all possible because of the first-class research on which treatments give the best outcomes. However, there is still so much to research about breast cancer, which is why I am dedicating 2023 to fundraising for breast cancer research, to improve outcomes for our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters and their families.”
During Katrina’s treatment her friends rallied around her and her family, offering childcare, cooked meals and emotional support. Seeing this community in action, Katrina had the idea to spread the love further with a number of fundraising events, including cycling from London to Brighton.
Katrina has 40 women joining her for the ride on 10th September 2023, many of whom have not ridden more than a few miles before. Within the team are women personally affected by breast cancer and others who have close friends and family members impacted by this disease. They will ride the 55 miles as a team aiming to raise over £20,000 and all proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Fund, which is managed by Southampton Hospitals Charity (registered Charity number 1051543).
