Below is some information on Islamic Relief and how they are helping the flood victims. Islamic Relief is providing emergency assistance to flood survivors and displaced families in a disaster that has overwhelmed 17 million people. IR Response Update 3 September Islamic Relief is providing emergency assistance to flood survivors and displaced families in a disaster that has overwhelmed over 17 million people. The worst monsoon floods in Pakistan in living memory have displaced millions of people who urgently need food, shelter, clean water and healthcare. Islamic Relief is giving emergency assistance to survivors by giving them the basics for survival. Continuing heavy rains and storms have made relief efforts difficult, but the vital work continues in order to prevent further deaths. Islamic Relief’s Latest Action Islamic Relief is working in four flood-hit provinces - Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Balochistan, Punjab, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir (AJK). Emergency projects are taking place in Nowshera, Mardan and Charsadda districts in KPK province, Sibi in Balochistan, Muzaffargarh in Punjab, and Bagh, Neelum and Haveli in AJK. Food and water Food Packs – Over 10,500 family food packs have been distributed, benefitting 74,000 people. Kitchen Sets - Over 5,000 kitchen sets have been distributed, benefitting 38,000 people. Contents include enough cooking utensils, pans and dishes for a family of seven. Cooked food – Cooked food is being distributed in Charsadda. Water distribution – 136,000 litres of water being distributed daily in Punjab and Muzafargarh, benefitting over 45,000 people a day. Jerry cans – 2,400 families have received jerry cans, benefitting 17,000 people. These jerry cans enable flood survivors to safely store clean water. Health and hygiene Family hygiene kits – over 10,000 kits have been distributed so far, benefitting over 70,000 people. Contents include water purification tablets, washing basins, anti-lice combs, female hygiene items, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Hygiene sessions – every person who receives a hygiene kit attends a hygiene promotion session. These workshops aim to help prevent the outbreak of disease and are essential in ensuring that vital items such as water-purification tablets are used correctly. Clean toilets - 70 clean latrines have been constructed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Washing points - 5 clean hand washing points have been set up in Muzafargarh, Punjab. Health Clinics - 2 mobile health clinics have been set up in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and thousands of people have already had consultations. Shelter Tents - over 5,500 people have been given shelter. Household items - over 26,000 people have benefitted from a family household kit. Items include mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets and washing detergent. Islamic Relief has offices in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, and Swat which have all been affected by the floods. We have been assisting vulnerable people in Pakistan since 1991.
