The Barclaycard Buoys are 'all at sea'
....to raise money for Rainbows in the UK and Exceptional Care for Children in the US
From its debut in 1988, The Great River Race now has firmly established itself in the sporting calendar to such an extent that experienced crews describe it as a classic event - the one they all want to win. With entries now nudging 300 boats carrying some 2,000-odd competitors racing for 35 trophies, it has become the biggest and most prestigious event of its kind in Europe. The race is 22 miles and expected to take around 4 hours - depending on how many times we fall in or fall out on the way.
Our UK / US team is Mark Edwards, Richard Hickson, Freddie Grive, David McCahon, Paul Henry and Clint Walker aka The Barclaycard Buoys and we will be 'racing' in an Irish Curragh - an apparently unstable craft with sticks in place of oars.
We are doing this ridiculous thing as an excuse to raise money for Rainbows in the UK - through this site - and Exceptional Care for Children in the US both of which are hospices for life limited children and their families.
