We empower women & men in 18000 communities to end their hunger and poverty sustainably

Story

The Hunger Project India has empowered 70,000 women - members of the local village councils (panchayats) - to be effective change agents for the end of hunger in their villages.

Participating in a three-day Women's Leadership Workshop:
1.  awakens women to their human rights;
2.  educates them about their powers and responsibilities as panchayat leaders;
3.  builds their capacity to create a vision and actions to achieve it;
4.  links them with external resources available in their area.

B. Rani Devaraj, from Tamil Nadu, India, is the president of her panchayat. After attending The Hunger Project's Women's Leadership Workshop, she learned how the political process works and how to deal with the challenges of her position. As a result, Rani brought sanitary toilets, access to safe drinking water and improved educational facilities to her community. She gained access to government funding to lead the construction of 74 houses and repair of 48 houses, and brought free electricity to 83 families in her village.

£7,500 will train 100 women leaders. Each woman leader makes a lasting impact in the lives of at least 100 of her fellow villagers. It costs only 75 pence per villager to ensure their access to all the services, benefits and resource that are rightfully theirs. Trained and empowered women panchayat leaders make that happen.

You can play your part in training these women and having a lasting effect on their community.

Please forward this onto your relations, friends and colleagues.  Together we can contribute to a landslide in Indian politics and a huge impact on every woman's village.
