Story
Many thanks for taking the time to visit our page.
On 22nd July my son Ross (aged 16), my wife Jill and I are travelling to Tanzania to attempt to climb Kilimanjaro.
Kilimanjaro is 5,895 metres (19,340 feet) compared with Everest Base Camp which is situated at a mere 5,340 metres (17,519 feet).
Neither Ross or Jill have ever tried anything quite so strenuous. I have walked at altitude before and know how difficult it is with such little oxygen and sub zero temperatures. Why Jill said she would climb it with me to celebrate my 50th year I will never know!
Please do not get swayed by certain 'celebrities' that have climbed Kilimanjaro, this will be a real challenge.
We have chosen to seek sponsorship for Macmillan Cancer Carers and British Heart Foundation.
Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support to sufferers as well as their family and carers. There cannot be many of us that have not experienced someone who has been affected by cancer. Please donate, even if just a token.
Please also note that, in addition, we are doing the London to Brighton cycle ride as a warm up. Please can you treat that and Kili as a single challenge. Unfortunately, we were unable to put two charities on one page, so if your chosen charity is British Heart Foundation, please visit our alternative page www.justgiving.co.uk/thejohnsonscycle
Many many thanks for your donations.
Mike, Jill and Ross
