My story

Thanks a lot for visiting my fundraising page.

.

Immigration is a political hot potato. But the people who come here (often from war-zones or dictatorships) deserve our sympathy. Some have been in prison in their own countries, many have lost homes and families. Most have been received with great suspicion in the UK.

.

Haslar Visitors Group is a charity which tries to help in practical ways, visiting immigrants in prison, and providing an advice service and social centre for those who have been allowed freedom. I know about the work as, until my retirement this February, I was the Haslar Visitors Group coordinator.

.

Usually the Mayor chooses a Chichester charity and that is surely right. However it is also right, from time to time, to think in broader terms. Haslar Visitors is based in Portsmouth and helps people from all over the world. A number of Chichester people are already volunteer helpers.

.

As Mayor I commend Haslar Visitors Group to you. Please help me as I try to help them during my year of office. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also very efficient: the group gets your money faster and with Gift Aid. Use a nickname if you'd like to be anonymous..

Councillor  Michael Woolley
