Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

The Reason: Every year we make our New Year Resolutions and every year I break mine  by February. This year I have added some responsibility to keeping up my resolutions and have entered the Eton Super Sprint on 16th May 2009 to raise money on behalf of TreeHouse.

Why Treehouse: TreeHouse is a partner charity of The Carphone Warehouse (my employers) and is dedicated to making a difference for children with Autism. My wife, Karen  is a LSA in a special needs school (Dysart School, Surbiton) and works with children with Autism on a daily basis. I've always admired her dedication to her job (as I couldn't do it) so this is my, albeit small, contribution to support those with Autism. You can find out more about TreeHouse here -> http://www.treehouse.org.uk/

The Challenge: The Eton Super Sprint is an annual triathlon event held at the 2012 Olympic Rowing venue, Dorney Lake and consists of a 400m open water swim, a 20km cycle ride and a 5km run  (see http://www.humanrace.co.uk/more-info-on-eton-supersprints-saturday-338.html for more info)

To some, this may not sound much of a challenge but if you consider that on the 1st Jan 2009, I weighed in at 115kgs (or 18st 3lbs, in old money) and haven't seen the inside of a swimming pool or worn running shoes for many years, let alone competed in a triathlon before, this really is a challenge on the scale of "Run, Fat Boy, Run".

My overall goal is just to complete the event, however I would like to think I could finish in under 1hr 45 minutes (but lets see about that )

Donating:     Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: TreeHouse gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!! Not only will you be helping TreeHouse, but you may also inspire me to become "Fat Boy Slim"

Entry secured for Bananaman Triathlon on 12th July.

17th May 2009 Thats it, its done!!!!
Nursing a few aching muscles this morning but I completed the course with mixed emotions.

The Highs
Crossing the line despite starting with a Hip Flexor injury and and a strained calf.
The final total raised will be around £1500 including gift aid (thanks everyone)
Under-estimated my ability in the water. My swim leg was far better than expected, with people actualy getting in my way.
The amount of support from my family and other competitors was inspiring.

The Lows
Missing my target time for leaving T2. I think the wind played a big influence in the time I posted for the cycle leg.
Straining my right calf at the end of the first run lap and having to choose which leg to apply the calf support to. Next time I'll not be so tight and buy 2 :o)!!!! Then having to walk the 2nd 2.5km lap and post a dreadful run time.

The Time
This is what you've been waiting for

Swim - 9m 39ses
T1 - 4m 10secs
Bike - 46m 45sec
T2 - 4m 22secs
Run - 44m 49secs
Total Time - 1hr 49m 48secs - Position 839
