We raise money for UCLH NHS Trust to help fund vital research and projects

Story

Some time last year over a curry and a few beers. Sue Thornton suggested that we do the 3 Peak Challenge for charity.

As some of you may be aware, Sue can be quite persuasive, so on June 25th 2010, 10 of us are planning to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales in 24 hours. It is a challenge that we are looking forward to with both excitement and also some trepidation!

Please sponsor us for this challenge, we want to raise £5000 for the UCLH new cancer centre that is being built. Many of us have been affected by cancer and would like something other than sore feet to result from this challenge.

One in three people are affected by cancer. Every day lives are changed forever by this disease, which indiscriminately alters the futures of people everywhere. This cancer centre which will open in 2012, will be a state-of-the-art building, with each floor designed around the needs of patients with different cancers, including dedicated facilities for teenage cancers, women’s health and men’s cancers

Changing the shape of cancer patients’ futures comes at a price – the cancer centre is costing £100 million to build. The NHS trust has asked UCLH Charitable Foundation to raise £40 million of the costs for the cancer centre.
