Story

Hello all

As many of you know I am taking part in the Marathon des Sables. It is one of the most famous ultra-endurance races in the world covering 243km or 151 miles over 6 days, equivalent to nearly 6 regular marathons across the unforgiving Sahara desert in Morocco. With mid-day temperatures soaring up to 50°C combined with the an ankle-wrenching variety of landscapes, including rocky hills, palm groves, dried mud flats and sand dunes understandably give the marathon de Sables its formidable reputation.

I hope in doing so I will be able to raise as much money as I can on behalf of Mencap – a great charity supporting people with learning disabilities to reach their full potential. I think you’ll agree that giving people the opportunity to do things for themselves and achieve things they may only dream of is a great gift. I want to inspire these people directly by pushing myself and provide some financial support to help it happen for them. See www.mencap.org.uk for more information about their work.

On 27th November 2007 I launched 'Running on Empty' - a recipe book of my friends, family and connections best and loved dishes – a touch of home cooking, experiments gone right, twists or just classic family favourites. Visit www.runningonempty.co.uk to buy your copy!

In the meantime, donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mencap gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

And many many thanks - it is hugely appreciated

Tim
