Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I can think of loads of reasons NOT to do this race..

I eat too much, I drink too much, my golf handicap is suffering, my family barely know me and I'm getting grief about all the jobs around the house which are outstanding but...

I will be running the race in nine weeks time in New York and need all of your support to make it a truly worthwhile effort for the Alzheimer's society. To find out why I chose this particular charity and more about the fantastic work they do read the press release below.

Thanks for your support

News release
Tim Wilkinson puts best foot forward for Alzheimer’s Society

Tim Wilkinson 46, from InTechnology, is taking part in the New York Marathon to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society on November 2nd  2008

The New York Marathon (26.2 miles) is the largest marathon in the world and covers all 5 boroughs of New York starting in Staten Island and crossing the Verrazano  Bridge to Brooklyn , Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx before looping back to Manhattan to finish in Central Park.

Tim  said:

‘I’ve been training hard for over 10 weeks now – running 3 times per week (a combination of speed sessions with my running club (Valley Striders , Leeds) and long distance runs at the weekend). In addition I am doing cardio-vascular sessions 2-3 times a week to build endurance, so I hope it pays off.

It's a sobering thought that 3/4 of a million people suffer from the disease today including 15,000 young people and this number is expected to more than double by 2050 - it's not just a problem for the sufferers but a massive burden for the close relatives who have to care for them day to day - my gran spent her last few years with the disease so I know from personal experience.
I'm looking to raise as much as possible for the charity and would really appreciate it if you could sponsor me.

Jo Swinhoe, Director of fundraising and marketing a Alzheimer’s Society said, ‘We are delighted that Tim is giving his time and energy to take on this running challenge for us.  As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Tim to help us care, research and campaign for people affected by dementia. One in three older people will end their life with a form of dementia.  It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has devastating impact on families and loved ones.  Please back Tim in the fundraising efforts so that we can continue leading the fight against dementia.’

Tim is hoping to raise £5000 for Alzheimer’s Society.  If you would like to help him reach his target please contact him on 01423 877510 or visit
