TOM TOUGH
03/04/1958 – 01/09/2010
Died unexpectedly of Myelofibrosis
Tom was born in Carluke Lanarkshire. His parents Tam and Rena and his wee sister Marion saw him leave home at the age of 17 to join the RAF.
He enjoyed his career in the RAF and his postings to High Wycombe (where he met and married Heather in 1978), , Swanton Morley, and Wyton. He loved sports and enjoyed playing football, representing both Station and Squadron. He would try any sport if any team was short of a player.
His 2 children Alex born 1983 and Alison 1984 were the centre of his world
He joined LSC Group after he left the RAF and enjoyed the camaraderie of his colleagues at every branch where he worked. He attended most functions and it seems that everyone knows the 'Indian' joke, but perhaps not the ending because of him collapsing into fits of laughter. This epitomises how they remember him.
He became aware of his illness in 2005. Few people knew the seriousness of his condition as he wanted to carry on as normal, even though very often it was a struggle.
He was taken into hospital 6 weeks ago, but his condition quickly became very aggressive, doctors and family were surprised how quickly he deteriorated. Above all he was determined to be the father of the bride at Alison's wedding. The battle proved to be much greater than any one realised and he sadly he died on September 1
st.
Thank you Tom for being part of our lives.
