Since Dad's shock diagnosis last May I have been trying to find a suitable way of raising money for one of the major cancer charities in the UK. I am delighted to say that I have been granted a Golden Bond place to run for The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the London Marathon on the 22nd April 2007. Whilst Dad has pointed out that my physique is better suited to the tug of war than marathon running it is a challenge I am determined to complete with the same bulldog spirit that he is showing with his own battle.
The Royal Marsden Hospital was the first hospital in the world dedicated to cancer treatment and research into the cause of cancer. Today, the hospital with its academic partner, The Insitute of Cancer Research, form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe with over 40,000 patients from the UK and abroad seen each year. Their strategic objective is to develop the Hospital as the UK's foremost centre of excellence in cancer care through growth, innovation and excellence.
I know that you will have recieved many similar requests for sponsership, however this request is very personal to me becuase over the last 6 months or so I have seen close up the way this dreadful disease impacts so suddenly on peoples lives. The inital dreaded diagnosis, the awful, instrusive chemo treatment and the life changing impact it can have on someone and the family around them. If my fund raising efforts just make that little difference to someone's life it will all be worth it.
Sponsering me through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you.
With best wishes,
Tom Newman
(Many thanks to all Offline Sponsers who have been extremely generous. Thank you also to Erinaceous Group Plc (my employer) who have donated £1,000 to my fund)
