Story

Hi there & thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

After receiving a text message on New Years Eve whilst under the influence of a few red wines i found myself agreeing to do the Berlin Marathon in September!!  Originally i wasn't going to run for any charity or raise sponsor money - i just wanted to rise to the challenge & do it!  Then after a life changing trip to the Elephant Orphanage in Kenya i realised that i wanted to do more to support them & that this would be a perfect way to do it.

The DSWT is a charity close to my heart - if you have ever watched "Elephant Diaries" then you will have seen the great work they do.  As my 40th birthday treat i was lucky enough to see this first hand and spent time with my fostered elephant, Dida.  My first visit to the orphanage co-incided with the rescue of a week old calf called Milgis & so predictably i found myself the foster parent of another ellie!  Unfortunately Milgis was beyond saving & died by the time i arrived back home.  During the trip i'd taken a shine to another little one, Kibo, who had taken great delight in kicking my husband Dave & he has become part of the Hughes family :0)

To find out more about the DSWT log onto to www.sheldrickwildlife.trust.org who knows, maybe you'll end up fostering a baby ellie too!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thanks for your support,

About the charity

Our Teams work to protect Kenya's wildlife and habitats through Anti-Poaching operations, Community Outreach, Mobile Veterinary support and the rescue and rehabilitation of elephant and rhino orphans so that they can return to the wild when grown. With your help, we can save more wild lives.
