Story

Thanks for taking the time to visiting our JustGiving page.

On Thursday 24th June 2010 a team of eight soldiers based at Blandford Camp in Dorset will start a 4 day cycle ride around Wales to raise money to support the Help for Heroes Charity.  The team will start and end the cycle ride at Cardiff; cycling through North, East, South and West Wales.  To make the event a bit more interesting/challenging, they will also walk up 3 mountains on route; Sugarloaf (Thursday 24th June), Snowdon (Friday 25th June) and Pen-y-Fan (Sun 27th June).  With a total distance of around 720 miles, 700 miles cycling and another 20 miles on foot, the team has set a target to achieve this distance in only four days.  It will undoubtedly be a demanding challenge.

The team intends to raise as much money as possible to assist the Help for Heroes charity to raise funds for their current appeal “Launchpad to Life” which is to construct new Personnel Recovery Centres (PRCtrs).  Personnel Recovery Centres will provide a “Launchpad” to life for seriously wounded or long term sick service personnel, supporting them as they make the transition to a fulfilling future.  Wounded personnel receive excellent medical care while at the medical rehabilitation centres however we know problems can arise once he/she stops being an inpatient.  Most service personnel are able to return to their homes, but not all families can provide the level of support, supervision and care needed to help someone who has a serious injury.  PRCtrs will help service personnel to make the swiftest possible return to duty, or the smoothest transition to an appropriate skilled and supported life.
