"My family has been supporting meningitis charities for a number of years.  Little did we know that we would have personal experience of this illness that would make us feel even stronger about raising money for this cause.  Last year we were blessed with a baby boy, Daniel, who is a brother to our eldest son Adam.  We were just trying to get used to Daniel’s little ways when, 4 weeks in, he started running a temperature and acting differently to normal.  In the middle of the night, we ended up at the children’s ward at Redditch hospital, where the doctors immediately started doing the tests for meningitis and started Daniel on antibiotics just in case.  It was an extremely scary time - our tiny baby was lying in a hospital bed with tubes in his arms - but we knew he was in the right place.  It was a long wait until morning when the doctors confirmed that Daniel had meningitis.  Fortunately it was a mild case and, after a week of antibiotics, Daniel seems to have recovered well and is developing as expected. We are still waiting for another hearing assessment to check there has been no damage caused by the meningitis. Please support Trigon and Meningitis UK so that further essential research can be done into meningitis and particularly the inoculation program, as this is a disease that can affect anyone and that can have severe consequences for the patient and their family.”
