The Varsity March · 22 June 2013

A cafe for homeless and vulnerably-housed people aged 25+ in the centre of Oxford. Open six days a week in the early evening. We provide a wide range of support services and advice as well as simple, nutritious food and drink. In other words, a community centre for those who have no community.

Story

The annual Varsity March is an 81 mile walk between Oxford and Cambridge, completed in under 48 hours without any sleep!

The 2013 march took place over the weekend of 22nd-23rd June 2013, and walkers from both Cambridge University Rambling Club and Oxford University Walking Club took part.  We set off from Oxford at 10.50 am on Saturday and finally arrived in Cambridge at 11:35 pm on Sunday!

The full 81 miles was completed by Matthew Ford, Trisha Hutchinson, Alec Maynard, James Neuhaus, Steven Smith and Theodosia Woo along with mascots Dylan the Sheep, Sal the Mule and Annabel the Penguin, while Maxime Bilhaud, Tom Bonser, Ed Bristow, Alan Iwi, Valérie Malard, Paul Saines, Barney Stratford and David Vasak all walked substantial distances, acted as support walkers, or both!

It's not too late to sponsor us!  This year we are again raising money for the Gatehouse charity in Oxford and Jimmy’s Night Shelter in Cambridge.  These charities carry out vital work among the homeless and poorly housed of Oxford and Cambridge, so please be generous with your donation!  We encourage you to split your donation between the Gatehouse (this page) and our page for Jimmy’s night shelter.
