As some of you may know, I was planning to run the London Marathon in April 2008, but, due to a stress fracture sustained to my foot, I have had to withdraw.(Those who very kindly sponsored me in advance for my Marathon efforts can be viewed on www.justgiving.com/vickybrookes1 and the money raised ((already donated to The Meningitis Trust)) will be transferred to the total of this challenge under the heading 'Funds raised offline' .) A special mention and thanks to my supporters who have already hosted events to raise money is found the end of this text.
However, my determination to raise money for The Meningitis Trust remains undiminished so I have taken the challenge of cycling 300 kilometres from London to Paris, in just 3 days, starting on the 4th July 2008.
I will be cycling in memory of Adina Harper who tragically lost her life very suddenly, aged only 14, to Meningitis. Some of you will have known Adina and know what a fantastic, full of fun girl she was; all of you know someone who could be struck by meningitis. Her death has profoundly affected her family and friends and left all who knew her with a deep sense of loss.
I have chosen to support the The Meningitis Trust in the hope that I can raise funds to help families affected by Meningitis, increase awareness of the disease and aid research into vaccines and treatments.
Obviously I will be putting in a lot of work between now and then - training come rain wind or snow - all I want you to do is sponsor my efforts and help me reach my goal of raising £4000.
So please dig deep and sponsor me online - everything helps and your support will spur me over the finish line (and I'm going to need all the help I can get!!)
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Meningitis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support, Vicky
